MIDDLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM (GRADES 6-8)
The remaining three years of schooling at Swallowtail create a host of new opportunities for the emerging adolescent. During this time the 12-14 year old awakens to the world with new enthusiasm and begins making connections to it based on powers of personal judgment. Simultaneously, the adolescent's thinking capacities are ripening from the seeds of a pictorial thought foundation of their earlier years, to the blossoming of conceptual thoughts and the birth of abstract thinking.
As the catalyst to ignite the adolescent's enthusiasm for learning changes the curriculum at Swallowtail also adapts in order to satisfy the probing nature of the middle school student while sustaining their long-term interest and earning their genuine respect. Our middle school program explores subjects in a living manner that expands the imagination, builds philosophical depth, endeavors to develop astute observation, helps to create artistic vision, and fosters social, as well as environmental, responsibility.
