August 2026 Camp

Peter Yenken will return to Swallowtail this summer to offer a workshop teaching current 4th - 7th graders (rising 5th-8th) how to make a bow/quiver/arrow OR a knife/wooden handle/ leather sheath.  For the bow/arrow/quiver, children will make by hand a wooden bow from hickory wood, wooden arrows with real turkey feathers, and a leather quiver. They will also learn to shoot their bows using the instinctive archery or traditional archery methods.  For knife-making, students will go home with their own knife made to fit their own hand.  Please note: These are intensive projects and children are expected to work independently and at their own paceEnrollment is limited to 14 students.

Camp will be held Monday, August 17th, through Friday, August 21st, from 9:00am-3:00pm, at our farm campus (weather permitting). Cost is $400 (includes materials).

Peter will also offer a workshop for adults! Adults will have the opportunity to make a basket, leather shoes, or felted slippers. This workshop will be held over 3 days: Friday, August 21st from 6:00-9:00pm, and Saturday, August 22nd & Sunday, August 23rd from 9:00am-5:00pm also at our farm campus (weather permitting). Cost is $250 (includes materials).
